Money mindset and your starting point

Name what money is for before you touch a dollar.

Faithfulness starts with small amounts. The habits you build with $40 this week are the same habits that will handle $40,000 later.

Luke 16:10

Three jobs, one dollar

Every dollar you ever earn does one of three jobs: it keeps you alive (food, phone, transport), it builds your future (savings, skills, investing), or it lets you be generous. When you know which job a dollar is doing, most money decisions stop feeling mysterious. When you do not, money just disappears and you are not sure where.

Comparison is a leaky bucket

Social media shows everyone's best purchases and none of their bank balances. Chasing the lifestyle you see online is the fastest way to spend money you do not have. A better scoreboard: are my needs covered, is my future getting a slice, and am I giving? If all three are true, you are winning, even if your car is older than your friends'.

Key terms

Cash flow: Money in minus money out over a period of time, like a month.

Net worth: Everything you own minus everything you owe. One number, not a judgement.
