Work, income and negotiating

Your income is the biggest lever you own.

Work done wholeheartedly is its own standard. Excellence is what makes you worth more over time.

Colossians 3:23

A one-page resume is enough

At your stage, a resume is one page: contact details, education, any job or volunteer work, skills and one or two references. Show up on time, dress one notch above the role, and prepare three examples of times you handled a problem. Most first-job interviews are really testing reliability and how you treat people.

The follow-up

Send a short thank-you message within a day. It is rare enough to stand out. If you do not get the job, ask what would make you a stronger candidate next time; that feedback is worth more than the rejection.

Key terms

Reference: A person who can speak to your work or character when an employer checks.

Internship: A temporary role, often for students, that builds experience and connections.
